Brief

D.J. Simmons, Inc. is an independent oil and gas exploration and production company headquartered in Farmington, New Mexico. The company presently operates over eighty wells, most of which are located in the heart of the San Juan Basin.

History

Mr. David Jack Simmons of Ft. Worth, Texas began working in the oil and gas industry in the 1930's. He built the company acquiring properties and prospects and developing them with the help of various financial backers that included former Louisiana Governor, Jimmy Noe among others. Mr. Simmons acquired his acreage in the San Juan Basin of New Mexico in the early 1950’s, drilling Mesaverde wells to tie into the newly built El Paso Natural Gas Company pipeline to California.

When Jack died in 1969, Mr. A.B. Geren, Jr., Jack’s nephew, took over the company operations continuing the development of the San Juan Basin acreage. Shallower Pictured Cliffs wells were drilled in the late 1960’s followed by infill Mesaverde’s in the 1980’s. The 1990’s brought Fruitland Coal well drilling, more Mesaverde infills and acquisition of producing properties. Mr. Geren now holds the position of Chairman of the Board for D.J. Simmons, Inc.
